I’ve been working with chickens since I was 12 years old and have owned them since I was 14.
I didn’t really love chickens until I was about 15 and had decided that I was going to work at the Rural King up the road from my house as soon as I could.
I did research into chickens every year, trying to convince my parents to let me get new chicks every spring. Little did I know, I had barely scratched the surface.
When I was 17, I moved in with my aunt and uncle on their farm so that I could get some real hands-on experience with animals.
When I moved back in with my parents at 19, I finally got the job and became the ‘Chicken Tender In Charge,’ and this is where my knowledge and love of chickens skyrocketed.
I loved talking to my customers and sharing information and learning new things from them. I made up my mind, and I was going to write a book on raising chickens for beginners.
From there, I snowballed into writing pamphlets to hand out while I was working, and that turned into creating a website so I could share around the world and teach about this wonderful creature that is a chicken.
And now I have roped my lovely husband into helping me with all my wild ideas.
